Aluminium pergolas: accessorising, decorating and maintaining your pergola

You've taken the plunge! You're about to build an aluminium pergola, either custom-made or in kit form. You'll soon be able to enjoy family meals, entertain friends or simply relax outdoors, comfortably shielded from the elements! You're probably now looking for ideas for decorating and accessorising your pergola. Or you might also want some advice on how to maintain it to maximise its lifespan. Here are some ideas and tips for turning your pergola into a real haven of peace.

5 decoration ideas for your pergola

Creating the pergola of your dreams is more than just building the structure. Whether it's made from aluminium, wood or wrought iron, you can add all sort of elements to ensure it meets your expectations in terms of aesthetics and comfort. There are plenty of ways of decorating your pergola to create your own little corner of paradise.

Convivial: garden furniture

This is of course the first thing we think about when we decide to install a pergola! Family meals and aperitifs with friends are never far from our mind as soon as the warm weather arrives. And what could be more inviting than a lovely set of garden furniture arranged under a pergola to protect you from the sun? There is something to suit all tastes and all budgets. You can choose classic garden furniture, for dinners and family get togethers, or armchairs and a coffee table which will turn your pergola into an outdoor lounge.

Cosy: a sofa and floor cushions

For an even more relaxed and cosy effect, opt for a sofa and coffee table! And why not add some pouffes and floor cushions. For a calm and relaxing atmosphere, light, neutral tones will give a beach feel to your pergola. And if you're looking for a place to relax with the family, colourful chairs will look great outdoors. Add some curtains if you want a little more privacy.

Gourmet: outdoor kitchen

An extension to the idea of the outdoors being transformed into a new living space. If you're lucky enough to live in a region where "outdoor living" is possible for several months of the year, why not create a summer kitchen to make the most of the outside space? Particularly suitable under a bioclimatic pergola which allows the cooking vapours to escape through the roof when the rotatable slats are open, it can also be installed under a wall-mounted pergola to be directly connected to the house.

Luxury: a home spa

Who hasn't dreamt of having access to some spa therapy at home whenever you feel like it? It's now possible if you install a jacuzzi under your pergola! Outdoor hot tubs come in all shapes and sizes. They can be portable, made from wood, round, square or rectangular. Add a few candles or LED lights, some plants and lie back, relax and unwind in a hot tub.

Nature: potted plants and climbing plants

Growing climbing plants such as clematis, Virginia creeper or wisteria is a great way to decorate your pergola and your outdoor space. Many climbing plants will also add a delightful scent and a splash of colour. You can also add a little greenery by arranging some potted plants and trees here and there.

How to maintain your aluminium pergola?

Aluminium is a material which is extremely easy to maintain, which is why it's being increasingly used in the construction of pergolas. Ideally, the aluminium structure should be cleaned twice a year, in spring and at the end of summer. It's important to remove any dead leaves from the gutters. Then simply use some soapy water to clean the structure and the gutters. You can then dry it with a soft cloth to prevent any streaks.
